Science Club

Join Science Club!

Are you curious and excited about learning science, especially topics you wouldn't see in your regular coursework?  Come join us!  Science Club is open to everyone, regardless of what math or science class you are taking. Our activities are accessible to students who are just beginning their science learning and, at the same time, will challenge advanced science students to deepen their understanding.

Meetings for the 2024-25 school year will be Tuesdays after school in Mrs. Hofferberth's room, room 143.  There will be snacks!

Sign up for Remind to receive meeting reminders and information: text @mvscicb to 81010 or enter the code in the Remind app.

Stop by and talk to Mrs. Hofferberth for more information.

What is Science Club?

The MVHS Science Club meets each week to investigate and explore the science of space (and other cool science, too).

We will be alternating "activity" meetings with "research" meetings.  Activity meetings will explore a wide range of science topics using hands-on activities to get students thinking. Then at research meetings, students have the opportunity to engage in genuine scientific research as part of the Pulsar Search Collaboratory (PSC), associated with the Green Bank Observatory, to help search the skies for pulsars! We will also be exploring other research opportunities, if pulsars are not what excite you.

Science Club is a partnership the with Kenyon College physics department.  The faculty and students from Kenyon help us to plan and host a variety of opportunities including visits to Miller Observatory, building robots, solar telescope viewing, and so much more.  We are endlessly grateful to their expertise and funding!

Science Club used to be known as Astronomy Club...so don't be confused if you see both names!
