The world awaits; choose your path.
After teaching English and communications for 32 years in a variety of assignments--Mount Vernon City Schools, Shelby City Schools, North Central State College, Ashland City Schools, and Medina City Schools--Mrs. Keaton left the English classroom to serve Mount Vernon High School students as a career readiness advisor. She is located directly next to the Guidance office in the main hallway. In addition to her new assignment, Mrs. Keaton is excited to advise Key Club alongside Mrs. Patricia Jackson, and since she loves to play in the snow, she advises students in Boots and Bindings Club (Ski Club). Lastly, she partners with the middle school guidance department to advise the Big Sibs mentorship program.
Mrs. Keaton acquired her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Akron and her Master of Education from Ashland University. She is licensed to teach literature, writing, speech/communications, theater, and journalism through her undergraduate degree. As a result of her Master's degree, she can teach gifted education, K-12. While specific licensure is not required for this new role, she will continue training through the Department of Education and Workforce and work to build partnerships with businesses in Knox County.
While Mrs. Keaton loves her profession, she most enjoys spending time with her family. Together, they support the Knox County Fair, vacation on Douglas Lake in Tennessee, ski/snowboard in the Rockies, and play in the sun in Naples, FL. While retirement is a few years away, her plan is simple: combine reading, nature, and coffee as often as possible.
