Family Over Success

Matt Saluvucci

By Emma Dean, Jacket Journal writer

This year, the atmosphere of the Boy’s Cross Country team was like a family, that pushed their successes to be the best they have been since 2015.
Logan Eggert and Eric Marofsky got the first team and Matt Salvucci was awarded the second team. The team as a whole also placed fourth in their conference.
“This was our best season since 2015. We had a lot of fast times and personal records set,” said Coach Gray. Sophomore Logan Eggert and senior Logan Moore prove this to be true by having times of 16:54.4 and 18:12 respectively and improving their personal records several times throughout the season.
In addition, Logan Eggert made it to Districts. The team also had some great turnouts, one being at Heath, finishing with second place out of seventeen different teams.
The success was great, but the atmosphere of the team was what made it all worthwhile. “I loved the season just because of the team, the team made it so fun even during the workouts we would still be laughing and messing around,” said senior Logan Moore.
The comradery of the team was at an all-time high. Everyone supported one another, pushing their teammates to be the best they could be. This is what made the team that much better.
“Everyone knows everyone and we all know when it’s time to work hard and when it’s time to play and have fun and just mess with each other,” said sophomore Logan Eggert.  This is a great team attribute to have because it can help add to the team’s successes.
Although finishing fourth in the conference might not seem like a big deal, it was for the boy’s cross country team. The teams ahead of them were Wooster, Ashland, and Lexington who according to Logan Eggert usually,” blow us out of the water.”
This year was different though because they were only behind Ashland, who was in third place, by seven points. This is huge and means there have been some huge strides of improvement in the Boy’s Cross Country runners this year.
Next season is looking very promising because the top runners will be coming back for another season and based on how this year’s season went, the possibilities are endless.
