Yellow Jackets Swing into Golf Success

2021 Varsity Golf Team

This was another great season for the Jackets golf team and possibly one of the best.

The Mount Vernon High School golf team beat Ashland High School, the 3-time defending OCC champs in a head-to-head battle breaking their winning streak of 18 wins over a course of 3 years. The team finished with an incredible season and overall placed 2nd in the league.

“On paper, it should be the best team we've had at Mount Vernon for a while, but the paper doesn't mean much until you go out and accomplish something,” said head coach Anthony Savage of the golf team.

Coach Savage is very proud of this team this year, and he is excited to see where next year will take Mount Vernon golf. The varsity players have accomplished so much as a team and individuals. As an individual Junior Ben Bridges was constantly the best player all year. He was a 1st Team All-OCC player for the second year in a row. He also won two big tournaments this year as an individual. He qualified for The Central District Golf Tournament.

“I’m excited for what the team has in store for next year,” said Junior Ben Bridges.

Senior Beau Bridges had a great golf career. As a three-sport athlete, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Finishing such a great season is such an accomplishment.

“I’m going to miss it,” said Senior Beau Bridges.

“I am very excited about our team's potential for next year,” said Coach Savage.
