“Fun, Rainy, Memorable” are the three words Senior Anna Dinnen feels most accurately describe the 2021 Girls Tennis season. Despite the team having to overcome the struggle of Covid-19 and poor weather, the Lady Jackets made the most of their season.
The tennis girls finished with a season record of 10-11. Coach Steve Tier noted, “My favorite moments are when the players come through with a win after playing a three-set match”.
These matches were played by Junior Emma Annett at Granville (7-6, 1-6, 10-7), and Rylanne Kanuckel-Wolfe at The OHSAA Sectionals (7-6 (5), 4-6, 13-11).
Special awards presented this year include Most Improved Player to Junior Grace Mayville, and Most Valuable Player to Senior Anna Dinnen. Dinnen also seized a silver medal at the Ohio Cardinal Conference tournament.
“From playing tennis, I have learned that practice, hard work, and a positive mindset can make you so much better than you would ever think you could be. Plus, I also learned you don’t have to be super great at something to enjoy doing it,” said Dinnen.
Senior Lucy Ogle was the only fourth-year varsity player this year. She is described as a great team leader, incredibly encouraging to teammates and the cheerleader of the team. Ogle broke Mount Vernon standards this season, Coach Tier exclaimed, “usually MTV 1st singles players get the reward of being pounded by their opponents match in and match out, but Lucy had a winning record!”
“The thing I am most grateful for is the connections and memories I made with the other girls on the team,” said Ogle.
