Laura Ackert is in her 24th year as a general music teacher for the Mount Vernon City School District. She currently teaches at Twin Oak and Columbia Elementary Schools. Mrs. Ackert has both a Bachelor and a Masters degrees in Music Education from Capital University. She is a member of the Central Ohio American Orff-Schulwerk Association and the Tri-City Kodaly Educators. She holds a Kodaly certificate and a Level 1 Orff-Schulwerk certificate. She co-directs the Knox Youth Choirs (Choraliers), an after-school choir program for enthusiastic singers in 2nd through 12th grade. She resides in Mount Vernon with her husband, daughter and four cats.
Be Musical at Home:
Listen to music while you do your school/homework.
Sing every day!
Make up a new song.
Have a dance party...or play Freeze Dance.
Teach someone a song that you know.
Make your own drum or rattle out of materials that you find around the house.
Listen to a piece of instrumental music and draw a picture of what the music makes you imagine.
Ask a family member about their favorite song or style of music.
Listen to a style of music that you would not normally listen to.
Tap your toes, or clap your hands to the beat of a song that you love.
