Columbia Elementary Library

Welcome to Columbia's Library!

Hello, my name is Jan Mustain, and I am excited to be Columbia's new library aide. I graduated from Crown College in Minnesota with a BA in Communications and took education classes from Notre Dame College of Ohio. I have been married for a long time to my husband, John, and we have three grown children and three grandchildren. Our grandchildren attend Mount Vernon City schools, and our daughter works as a teacher in the district. Our oldest son lives in Cincinnati, and our younger son lives in Los Angeles. In my free time, I love to read, garden, hike, and birdwatch. This is my first year as Columbia's library aide, and I look forward to meeting and working with all of you!

Battle of The Books

Just Right Books

How do you know if a book is "just right" for you?

1) Pick up a book you find interesting!
2) Open it up.
3) Try reading the first page. Put a finger up for each word you cannot read, if you have five fingers up it is probably too hard and you should try a different book.
4) Read a page or two more. Can you read it smoothly? Do you understand what is going on? If yes, you found a "just right" book. Enjoy! If no, try a different one.
