"To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark." ~ Victor Hugo
Teaching in the Mount Vernon City School District is an exciting full circle moment for me! I am a '99 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and I'm blessed to be back home in Knox County. I received my BA in Early Childhood Education from Ohio Northern University, my Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State University, and my Reading Endorsement from Bowling Green State University.
Following a short term position at Ben Franklin Elementary in Newark City Schools, I taught first grade for the New Albany Plain Local School District. After three years, I took a break from teaching to stay home and raise my two children, Ainsley and Owen. During this time, I was employed as a long term substitute for Southwest Licking Local Schools, a Remote Teacher for the Montgomery County Educational Service Center, and an Education Consultant at the North Central Ohio Education Service Center. I've spent the past two years engaging in coursework on Structured Literacy and this past summer earned a certification as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist.
I am thrilled to be joining the amazing group of teachers at Wiggin Street Elementary and am excited for the year ahead!
