Hello New Kindergartners and Families!
Welcome to Twin Oak Elementary!
Kindergarten is the most important year in a child's education! Kindergarten is the first real snapshot of what school can be for your child and it must be full of excitement, engagement, and foster a myriad of curiosities and exploration for your little one. A positive kindergarten year can make all of the difference in shaping the type of learner your child becomes!
I am in my 28th year of teaching for the school year 2023-2024, and I have always been committed to helping your child grow as a learner in a very positive learning environment where they can feel safe taking risks in trying new things, and develop a sense of independence in helping themselves in all areas of their lives.
I began my career at East Knox Elementary in Bladensburg in 1996. I have taught Kindergarten or provided Reading Intervention to K, 1st and 2nd grade students in all of that time. I am a trained Reading Recovery teacher, and teaching literacy to emergent learners is my true passion. It is quite something to witness new learners begin to reading and write and learn for themselves that they have indeed become a true reader and writer! It is so powerful! I have been at Twin Oak since its beginning in 2005, and have taught at West Side, Elmwood, and Dan Emmett throughout the years that I have been in MVCSD.
I attended Mount Vernon City Schools from Kindergarten-12th grade. I attended Columbia and East Elementary, MVMS and MVHS. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Education and my graduate schooling focused in the area of Literacy Intervention. I am a HUGE BUCKEYE FAN!
My husband Scott and I have three grown children, Madison, Mia and Jack, who we love spending time with and I love to work in my garden, my koi pond, go to OSU football games and hang out with our golden retrievers Luna and Archie, and our kitty Milo.
