Welcome to fifth grade!
I absolutely love teaching. I am blessed to have a job at an amazing school and district.
I moved to Mount Vernon in 1989 and began teaching in 1995. I have been a classroom teacher for twenty-eight years. I taught two years in Heath, Ohio. Eight years I taught third grade at Dan Emmett Elementary. The last eighteen years I have taught fifth grade here at East Elementary. I know how fortunate I am to work with an amazing group of educators here at East and hope to always continue the East School tradition of educating the whole person.
I received my first degree from Cincinnati Bible College in Business. Later, I acquired a Bachelor degree in Education from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. Recently I pursued and received a Master's degree in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction from Walden University.
My husband, Don and I live in Mount Vernon. He is now retired from AEP. I have three sons who are East School graduates. My eldest son, his wife, and my grandson, live in Tennessee He is is a meteorologist in the Air Force. My middle son lives in the Lexington, ohio. My youngest son is also in the Air Force in Montana.
Along with teaching, I love to read, walk, bike, travel, garden, and spend time with the family. I am an avid Ohio State fan. OH. . . . .
Fifth grade is such an important year. The academic content becomes more rigorous and students are preparing to transition to the middle school. It is also a fun year with hands-on science experiments, developing their writing voice, studying the Western Hemisphere, extending math learning of decimals, fractions, number sense, and fifth grade camp in the spring. It is a very exciting year that I am privileged to guide students through.
