I am so excited to be joining Dan Emmett for the 2023-2024 school year and becoming part of the Jacket family! Teaching is my passion, and it’s my joy to see children grow as learners. I hope to make each student an active learner, encourage them to set and meet high goals, and get them involved in an interactive way. I love to teach using songs and motions. I incorporate a lot of Whole Brain Teaching into my instruction and classroom management to keep students engaged and committing their instruction to memory. The year will be filled with many terrific experiences (multiplication songs, writer’s workshop, learning some basic Creole, learning through games, and lots more). I will do my best to make this year an incredible year for your child!

To let you know a little bit about myself, I was born and raised on a farm in Fredericktown, Ohio. When I was thirteen, my family and I moved to Haiti to run a guesthouse for missionaries and work teams. (My parents recently retired back to Mount Vernon, but I considered Haiti my home for many years.) Upon high school graduation, I returned to Ohio to attend Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. I graduated from college in May of 2005. I earned my master’s degree in Reading and Literacy from Walden University in July of 2010. My entire teaching career up to this point has been at Northridge Elementary. This is my nineteenth year teaching. I live in Mt. Vernon with my husband, Andrew and our 3 old daughter, Lydia, and our 1 year old son, Lincoln.

I'm looking forward to an incredible school year!
