Twin Oak School hours:  The school hours for students in grade kindergarten through grade five will be 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The first bell rings at 8:50 a.m. and students are expected to be going to their classrooms at that time. Students are tardy if they are not in their classrooms by 9:00 a.m.  The lunch/recess hour for grades kindergarten through five is 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.   Students should not arrive at school before 8:35 a.m. There is not a teacher on duty to supervise the students until 8:35 a.m. each morning throughout the school year.

Student Fees:   Kindergarten to Grade 5 -          $30.00

You may pay your child’s student fee in cash, check, or money order. All checks and money orders should be made payable to the Mount Vernon City Schools. If you have more than one child attending Twin Oak, you need not send separate checks, but you should put your child’s name(s) in the Memo section of the check. A receipt will be issued to your child upon payment. All fees should be paid as soon as possible. Please do not combine fee money and lunch or milk ticket money on the same check. These two categories need to be separate.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up at Twin Oak:

Bus ridersAll students who are bused will be dropped off in the morning and picked up at the end of the day at the main door. ** Only buses are permitted in the bus lane by the school during bus drop off and pick up.
The Bus Garage number is: 740-393-5995 if you have bus transportation questions.

Car Riders: When students are brought to school by a parent, babysitter, etc., the driver should follow the sign for “student drop-off”. ** Drop off students at the sidewalk ONLY. Please move forward so that more than one child can be dropped off at a time. All students must exit from the car on the sidewalk side.

Pick-up at the end of the day: Students will be picked up on the lower level area. When the parent has driven around the circle and pulled up to the sidewalk, the teacher will dismiss the student. Students will NOT be allowed to cross the drive to get to their car unless accompanied by an adult.

Entry into the School Building:During the school day, all doors to the school will be locked, except the front main entry door. When you are coming to the school, you must enter through the main front door and go into the office. You must check in at the office. The building is set up this way for the safety of the children.

After School Plans:
Before your child leaves in the morning, make sure they know how they are getting home that afternoon. Most students will normally ride the bus. If they are not to ride the bus home that day, they must bring a note. If they do not have a note, they will be sent home on the bus. We will not be making phone calls at the end of the day. If they are to be picked up every day, please send a note to the teacher and let them know that they will be picked up every day. This note only needs to be sent once if it is going to be every day throughout the school year. Please do not call the office to make plans for after school. With so many children, it is difficult to get messages to all the children. Thank you for your help with this matter.

Family Vacations:
Parents are encouraged not to take their child out of school for vacations. When a family vacation must be scheduled during the school year, the parents should discuss the matter with the classroom teacher and the principal to make necessary arrangements. It may be possible for the student to receive certain assignments that are to be completed during the trip, but not all assignments will be able to be made up due to the nature of the classroom. The time missed will be counted as an authorized, unexcused absence, but shall not be a factor in determining grades unless make-up work is not completed.

Absences and/or late to school: Please call the school office (740-393-5970 ext. 0) by 9:00 a.m. if your child is going to be absent or late.  Please see the Parent/Student handbook for more information regarding student absence.
