Summer Reading 2022

This year's summer reading incentive has begun! Students who meet the reading goal will earn a Wet-N-Wild Water Day! A special reading log is coming home with your child to use. As your child reads this summer, keep track of the books or pages read and
initial the reading they have done. Remember that students should be reading books at their independent reading level to count. Plus, reading together can count as well. Please click on the links to read more information and for an extra copy of the reading logs.

While your child reads, you can take digital photos and email them to Mrs. Phillips at [email protected]. We will share all the pictures of students reading in a back-to-school video. You can also share the photos you post on social media with #WigginStReader. It’s always fun to see all of the interesting places students enjoying reading!

Research has shown that reading over the summer can help prevent that dreaded “Summer Slide” and allow students to maintain the growth they worked so hard for during the school year. Go find new adventures, make exciting discoveries, and explore the possibilities. Take advantage of online reading programs, Lexia Core 5, the Little Free Library on the front lawn, or contact the school if your child needs appropriate reading materials. Let’s start off the new year as strong readers!

So, keep cool this summer and chill out with a great book! We’d love to have everyone splashing around at our Wet-N-Wild Water Day with their friends. There will be all kinds of fun water activities and games here at the school. You won’t want to miss out! As an EXTRA BONUS, students that continue to use Lexia Core 5 to practice skills over the summer, will also be rewarded. Our school wide goal is 50,000 minutes and 50 units gained. Any student that earns over 1,000 minutes during the summer will get a chance to soak Mrs. Grandstaff during water day. The way you read this summer is up to you! JUST KEEP READING!!

Happy Reading!

Best Wishes,
Christy Grandstaff
Wiggin Street Elementary Principal
