Senior trumpet player Ella Ackert received the John Philip Sousa award on Monday, May 9th at a special luncheon sponsored by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis. The John Philip Sousa award is given to an outstanding band student who demonstrates superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty, and cooperation. Ella has earned the most varsity points in their class and embodies the definition of the John Philip Sousa award. Ella was in attendance with their parents, Brian and Laura Ackert; grandparent, Linda Douglas; private trumpet instructor, Dave Eaton; and band director, Megan Aubihl.
