Coach Firebaugh's comments.
I was pleased with the team's overall effort in placing 5th at the district tournament, but as a coach, we left some winnable matches out there this past weekend. We had five placers (three qualifiers, an alternate, and a 6th place). I am very happy that the three qualifiers responded to their semi-final loss by returning to take 3rd place. That takes a lot of grit and heart to recover from a tough loss and come back to win the next two, and Brock, Jake, and Alex all did that. We had 11 qualify for the district tournament, and only three reached their goal. I feel for the eight that did not reach their goal of top-four finish and a state tournament berth. I have witnessed daily how hard they work and how much sacrifice, effort, and discipline they displayed for these past four months and even many years before this season to accomplish a goal they came up just short on. I couldn't be prouder of this team, top to bottom. They ALL have done everything that the coaching staff has asked of them all season. I am excited about this weekend, and I am excited to see Brock, Jake, and Alex compete. They have earned their way to the state tournament and will be ready to take on the best in the state.

Emma won her third straight Regional title yesterday.  Emma aims to win a state title, and winning her Regional is a great step toward doing that.  She has had some ups and downs this year, but she is wrestling her best at the right time of the season.  Emma is excited for this weekend as she really wanted to compete at the Schott for the inaugural year of the girls wrestling being OHSAA sanctioned.  I can't wait to watch her compete alongside the boys this weekend at the Schott!
