Students learn about Barbershop

MOUNT VERNON, OH (April 18, 2022) - Mount Vernon High School music students listened to the harmonious sounds of the Bravada Barbershop Quartet today. The quartet, lead by Mr. Trevor Garrabrant, sang a variety of barbershop tunes including Maroon 5's "Sugar", Irving Berlin's "What'll I Do", Andrew Mack's "Heart of My Heart", and The Five Satins' "In The Still of the Night".

Students learned about the parts of a barbershop quartet including lead, bass, tenor (sparkles), and baritone (garbage man). They also learned about overtones, or higher pitches created from the blending of the four singers. Overtones are often heard in barbershop.

The Bravada Quartet is one of the small ensembles of the Fun Center Chordsman based in Mansfield, Ohio. You can learn more about the group by visiting their webpage at https://funcenterchordsmen.com/

The Mount Vernon Music Department seeks to enrich the lives of our students by exposing them to a variety of music.
