Social Workers

“Here to Help, Here to Listen, Here to Support.”

School social workers are here to support students and familiesA school social worker at Mount Vernon City Schools supports students’ social, emotional, and behavioral well-being so they can succeed in school. They provide individual and small-group counseling, help students build coping and problem-solving skills, and offer support during times of crisis or transition. Social workers also collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to address barriers that may affect a student’s learning, attendance, or behavior.

In addition, school social workers partner with families to strengthen home-school connections and connect families with helpful community resources, such as mental health services, food assistance, or other supports. They advocate for students, promote a positive and inclusive school climate, and work proactively to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
