Gifted & Enrichment

What is Gifted Education?

Gifted education supports students who demonstrate, or have the potential to demonstrate, advanced levels of performance when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment. These students may show exceptional ability in reasoning, academic achievement, creativity, problem-solving, leadership, or the visual and performing arts.

In Ohio, students may be identified as gifted in one or more of the following areas: Superior Cognitive Ability, Specific Academic Ability, Creative Thinking Ability, and Visual or Performing Arts Ability.

At Mount Vernon City Schools, gifted education and enrichment opportunities are designed to provide students with appropriate challenge, depth, complexity, creativity, and opportunities for advanced learning. Our goal is to help students grow academically, think critically, solve complex problems, and develop their unique strengths.

Gifted education may include differentiated classroom instruction, enrichment opportunities, academic acceleration, advanced coursework, problem-based learning, creative thinking experiences, and specialized gifted services when appropriate.
