EMIS
What is EMIS? EMIS stands for Education Management Information System.
EMIS is a comprehensive, statewide data collection system used by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) to gather and manage information from all public schools and districts across the state. The system plays a vital role in ensuring that accurate and consistent data is available for decision-making, reporting, and accountability purposes.
Through EMIS, schools report a wide range of information, including:
- Student demographics – such as enrollment, grade level, and program participation
- Attendance and discipline records
- Course and staff data – including teacher assignments and class schedules
- Assessment results – including state and district testing outcomes
- Financial information – such as expenditures and funding details
The data collected through EMIS supports numerous state and federal reporting requirements, funding calculations, and educational research initiatives. It helps the state monitor school performance, track student progress, and ensure compliance with education laws and policies.
In short, EMIS serves as the backbone of Ohio’s education data system — connecting schools, districts, and the state in a unified effort to provide accurate information that supports student success and continuous improvement.
