Teaching & Learning
Department of Teaching and Learning
The Department of Teaching and Learning supports high-quality educational experiences for every student in Mount Vernon City Schools. We partner with teachers, administrators, support staff, families, and the community to strengthen teaching practices, enhance student learning, and provide the resources needed for student success.
Our department provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, educational technology, and continuous school improvement. We strive to ensure every student is prepared for success in school and beyond.
If you have questions about curriculum, instructional programs, assessments, or other teaching and learning initiatives, we encourage you to contact our department.
Our Mission
To provide, in cooperation with the larger community, a quality education for all students by upholding a standard of excellence in curriculum, staff, facilities, achievement and conduct and to graduate individuals empowered to be self-motivated-lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
Continuous Improvement
Mount Vernon City Schools participates in the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP), a statewide framework designed to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Through the OIP, our district uses student achievement data to guide instructional decisions, strengthen educational practices, and improve outcomes for all learners. This collaborative process is supported through our:
- District Leadership Team (DLT)
- Building Leadership Teams (BLTs)
- Teacher-Based Teams (TBTs)
Working together, these teams analyze data, identify areas for growth, implement evidence-based instructional strategies, and monitor student progress to ensure continuous improvement across the district.
