PHILOSOPHY OF THE BAND PROGRAM:
The principle function of the Mount Vernon Schools band program is to provide an opportunity for students to develop their aesthetic potential through the performance of wind/percussion literature. Three major goals of the program are:
- to increase student understanding and appreciation of a wide variety of band music.
- to provide an aesthetic experience and promote self-esteem through performing.
- to provide the background necessary for further study of music.
Music is an integral part of the entire education process as it fulfills a basic need - that of expression. These goals can be reached through a comprehensive study of band literature and varied performance venues (marching, concert and jazz).
