Mount Vernon is a middle class; suburban, residential community located 48 miles northeast of Columbus, Ohio. Mount Vernon was named Ohio's Most Livable Community in 1994 by Ohio Magazine, Ohio’s premiere travel publication. Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Kenyon College are located in the school district.
Mount Vernon High School is a four-year high school with an enrollment of 1240 students. Mount Vernon High School has 74 certified staff. Of these 37 have earned master degrees, one has earned a Ph.D and two have earned National Board Certification. The curriculum at MVHS is comprehensive including advanced placement, honors, occupational and vocational programs.
